Can New X-Men still be good without Morrison? Well..............NO.

New X-Men is considered one of the best comics on the market. It featured one of the most talented writers working in comics with great art. The writer for the title, Grant Morrison, has left the title to pursue other projects. So a month before the big X-Men: Reload blitz from Marvel begins, Chuck Austen attempts to transition to the book to this event. Does it work? NO.

The story begins at the grave of Jean Grey where Cyclops and his newfound love, Emma Frost agree to go steady. Along with the Beast, they decide to rebuild the school and run it themselves or to leave it all behind.

First off, I must say that the art in this comic is gorgeous! Larroca shows off some nice pencil work along with some nice color work from the folks of UDON. There also is some dialogue between Cyclops and the Beast.

The characterization and plot in this book is horrible! Emma Frost comes off as the witch that no one would want to date. Next how could  Emma Frost get knocked out by an angry mob when she could knock everyone out without her mind? At least she could turn into her diamond form and beat everyone down! And finally, if the Beast has a heightened sense of hearing, then how come he can't even hear a robot begining to attack them? Even so, do you think that  Cyclops and Beast, who have been X-Men since their teen years, be able to stop a robot from the danger room?

Overall, this story is a complete failure. If only the story was as good as the art. On the bright side, the X-Men Reload event begins next month. This gets 1.5* out of 5*.
