When I was at my local library recently, I noticed something interested. It turned out to be...JLA:League of One. It
looked like it had an interesting story with nice visuals to boot. So would it actually have an interesting story?
The plot of the graphic novel revolves around an evil dragon that was defeated centuries ago. Apparently, she is still
living and when some misinformed gnomes awake her, the future doesn't look bright. So what does the JLA have to do with it?
Well, Wonder Woman hears an ancient prophecy, in which, if the JLA battles this dragon......they will die. So it is up to
Wonder Woman by changing their destiny. How you ask? By doing the only thing she can do.....betraying the JLA!
Before heading into the story, I must first complement the artwork because it is awesome! The painted artwork grabs the
fantasy elements of this story well. Now, as far as the story goes, Moeller has created a solid, fantasy tale. All of
the motivations for the characters are solid and plot doesn't let down for a second.
On the downside, if you hate tales with any sort of fantasy element or just don't like mythical creatures in your tales,
this isn't for you. Another problem with this tale is that the believablity that anyone of the JLA would die at the end of
the story is absurd. After all, DC wouldn't want the Flash or Green Lantern to die in this graphic novel that has no major
effect on the team, which makes the book predictable.
When all is said and done, JLA: League of One is a solid graphic novel. With a great story and some solid art, JLA League
of One is a treat. However, the predictability, which couldn't be avoided by the writer, hampers the experience. Go
