So I'm at my local library looking around the graphic novel section, when I notice the next volume of the Bone series:
The Great Cow Race. Knowing the experience I had reading the past volume of
Bone, I had to give this a shot. So, would it continue the great writing of the previous volume or turn out to be a bust?
At a local spring fair, the great cow race is about to begin. Days before, however, Phoney Bone puts into motion, a plan
that will rip off the local betting men. Meanwhile, Fone Bone begins to think of a way to impress Thorn. And all the
while, evil enters the picture (but not in a way that you expect)!
Once again, Jeff Smith writes an entertaining story for all ages. At times, he pace the tale to be serious, while moving
to a more comedic approach and it passes with flying colors. Now, let's not forget the artwork by Smith, which is amazing
in itself. His style seems to have a Chuck Jones feel to it, that matches the mood of the story. Now don't forget that this
is an all-ages graphic novel.
Overall, Smith does it again. With a great story and great art to complement it, Bone is a treat in itself. This is perfect
for anyone of all ages. Why can't most all-age comics be like this? This graphic novel receives 4.5* out of 5*
