Anyone who has been a regular site can tell you, I love Brian K. Vaughan's work on Runaways. Issue, after issue, after issue, Vaughan delivers. When I heard that he was taking over Ultimate X-Men, I was happy. Then I read his first issue on the comic. After that, I was little worried about his run on the comic. So when I picked up Ultimate X-Men 47, I read with caution.
Was it good?
In the last issue, Jean-Paul Beaubier was seen being shot by Mr. Sinister. Since then, he has been in a coma, until Jean
Grey helped release him from it. Jean-Paul then learns that others, who were shot by Sinister, were killed and that he barely
dodged the bullet. Now the X-Men decide whether to hunt Sinister down or not.
Brian K. Vaughan works his magic here, and gives the members of the X-Men some strong dialogue and characterization.
He also seems to be drawing influence from the rich X-Men universe. Completing Vaughan, is Brandon Peterson, who does a great
job. He manages to show the action sequences quite well, and also gives the characters some great expressions when they're
not in battle. The only downside to this issue is the training exercise that the X-Men participate, which doesn't clearly
explain what is what.
Overall, Vaughan does a great job. With a better plot, fantastic art, and great characterization, Ultimate X-Men is looking
great. Hopefully, Vaughan can keep this up. This comic receives 4.5* out of 5*.
